On the evening of Friday 24th July, we were joined in Roe River Books, Dundalk, for the launch of the 2nd volume of Channel The Dark, by Tom O'Connell, author of Lichtenberg; Sean Richardson, who contributed Bradshaw to the anthology; RTE's Teresa Mannion; and Zane Vondracek of Astory Media, who kindly took some wonderful photos and videos. You can find the gallery on the Channel The Dark webpage here.
We were hosted by Tom Muckian (proprietor), May, Catherine, and the wonderful Raquel Costa; and of course, I, your illustrious Gatekeeper read from The Dark Horseman, one of my epic poems, relating how writing these works helped me navigate a particularly difficult time in my life.
Felicia from Sosad Dundalk gave a heartfelt and moving speech about what suicide counselling means to her, and overall we advocated for expressing one's darker thoughts either through conversation or, in this case, writing.
This particular volume took a long time to bring together, longer than expected, and I'd like to express my gratitude to Océane Sannier, Assistant Editor on the project; Livia Curejova, SFI Coordinator (CTD is now SFI's signature anthology); and the truly excellent Bekka Bjorke, who rescued us from artistic oblivion when she volunteered the cover art and then built the cover. I'd be truly lost without all this help.
Until next time, Darklings, keep writing, and always Channel The Dark.
